Greenhouse in use

A couple of weeks after that the greenhouse has been ready to use, the
seeds start growing…

In action

There was an invasion of snails.

The chalk-line is a natural barrier for the snails. They also said that beer
was a good poison for them. But till sofar that has not been working very well
here.

6th day of building the greenhouse

The framework is done, the only thing left is the cover and the interior…

Most precise job is cutting the rafters to fit

And I did not a perfect job, but they fit, without glue. Maybe one of these days I have to move the greenhouse to another spot. That is possible, because it is only screws that I used.

The structure is complete

So now the only thing left is the cover and the interior and then we can start our baby farm of veggies. Not a minute to lose. The weather is really good. It never freezes here, the only problem is the rain, but it has not been so bad till now.

5th day of building the greenhouse, top has been reached

Almost there with the outside structure. Still some more rafters to cut and place and then we can concentrate on how to mount the plastic and the earth floor and the interior of the greenhouse…

5th day greenhouse

Yesterday I didn’t do much, but with an excuse.

What’s a name?

We live in Lipingue, a community of no more then 100 houses. This belongs to a town called “Los Lagos” in Region XIV.
Region XIV is called “Los Rios”, so in fact we live in “Los Lagos, Los Rios” if you go from specific to general or in “Los Rios, Los Lagos” if you go the hierarchal way.

It is very confusing, even for people from Chile.Because there also exist Region X that is called “Los Lagos”. In fact region XIV, Los Rios is just recently split from Los Lagos, in October 2007 to be precise.

The excuse

Yesterday, the president of Chile, Mme Bachelet made a surprise visit to our town, to Los Lagos. For me it was as if the queen of the Netherlands came to Mierlo. You have to be there…so we went. We waited and got cold feet. There is really nothing more to tell about this event.
Later on I heard that the major was promised a new school.
So much for ‘live events’.

Today’s result

Some more things to do, but the structure is almost finished.

4th day greenhouse-building, steady progress to be seen

Frosty in the morning and a bit of sun in the afternoon. Very nice weather to work, so I did. More work done then can be seen in the picture…

It is amazing how much wood such a simple structure cost.

The wood, most of it 2”x3”, has been cut to size and impregnated…not to be seen on this picture

but will be shown one of these days.

It will be ready much quicker as what I find when I search the tweets with the keyword “greenhouse”. It seems as if the G8 promises a mass reduction of greenhouse-gases in the year 2050.

Imagine that. I don’t think my greenhouse will survive that long, and I also will be very very old, almost a century.

Of course twitter is not a news-agency, but only a way to listen to the world and to gossip with the world about the things of the world as it is today.

But maybe these new communication-media can help us achieving goals. I’ll announce when the veggies are ripe on twitter.
