Utila is a nice charming little dive paradise island but if there is a Northern blowing…

Utila anchorage with a Northern blowing

A from S/V .

Most of the time this anchorage is nice and quit, beside the techno-music that goes on till late at night. But in wintertime the northerners start to blow and the anchorage turns in a small sea with waves.

It is no time to sit outside. The cockpit is wet and even at night we don’t here the techno-music any more. It seems that everybody on the island is inside ‘cocooning’.

We were also inside the boat, but with mixed feelings. The boat is rocking on the anchor, the rain doesn’t stop for days and it is not possible to sleep in the f’csle. Too much up-and-down movement.

A trip ashore is not attractive. So we stay inside. Enjoy a simple meal and listen to the weather-forecast that is predicting way too optimistic that we should have a light NE wind and sunny skies. And this prediction is for 3 days wrong.

But as always, the weather will change. And then it is extra nice to go ashore.
The positive result is that our watertanks are filled to the rim with rainwater. It is not easy to get drinking water in Utila otherwise.
