Dutch/American couple in the same bay as we are anchored. They not only anchored. After two weeks they bought a small swampy island to settle. Keeping the Dutch tradition high, I think they eventually will make it dry land. For now, they use poles to build themselves a traditional palapa to keep their feet dry…

Something new for the locals

Maurits makes good use of his nautical knowledge and amazes even the locals with some handy crane to place the poles.
On the middle pole you see what I call ‘the churchbell’. With that rusty heavy thing that they lift with six people and then drop it down, the poles sink into the muddy ground. You will hear the sound of a muffled church-bell in the bay. Sometimes 5 times, sometimes 6. And then it is silent for a while. They gather strength again. Then after half an hour you will here it again.

Where there is work to be done, there is a radio to get the drive

And this is the beginning of a dike ?!

It has to be in the genes of the Dutch. Building dikes to protect their precious peace of land.
