Maybe not every sailor, but for sure I do…
Strange habits
When I come into a country I buy things. Things like water in a bottle, or yogurt, or fruit-juices. They all come in something.
I’ve used the biggest coke-bottles for radar-reflectors. I even go out and look for the biggest round bottle with the cheapest content. I mount them under my spreader filled with aluminum foil. This I have to redo every 5 years.
The big ships report that they see me fine on their radar.
We used to fill the big coke-bottles with spaghetti too. Not so labor-intensive as you might think, and sealed to be completely dry until you open it. It was at times labor-intensive to get the spaghetti out of the bottle, without breaking them.
The smaller bottles I use to mix paint, to store the one-time-brushes for one night. I cut them in the middle. We also use them for funnels for rice, sugar and even beans.

Here you see my latest collection of fruit-juice bottles. Not much use on a boat, they are from glass. But on the other hand, very useful for storing screws. You can see what kind of screws there are in the bottle. And the opening is so wide that up to half an inch will pass easily.
Tonight Vivian asked if I had enough bottles for my screws.
“You don’t like the juices any more?”, I asked.
“No I like them very much, but do we have to save them all?”, she said.
I will have to look for fruit-juices in another useful container.
