A rowing dinghy needs oars. The trick is to get long light ones without any screw in them. Then they last.

Oars

I varnished a pair of new oars I bought a week ago. Handmade, a pair of 8 foot long oars costed me 150Q, around 20 dollars US. I want this pair to last for a while. I have used 4 pairs of oars in 8 years. And I always tried to look good after them. My last ones are indestructible, 9 ft, but very heavy. Only good for very calm weather.

The new ones I epoxied yesterday, put some fiberglass on it that they won’t crack. Screws are forbidden. They give a weak spot in the wood and for sure it will break at that spot in one to two years time.

I prefer to row my dinghy as to put the outboard on it, specially for the short distances we do here in the Rio Dulce. It is cheaper, good for as an exercise and the dinghy is not attractive to steal.

My dinghy is a hard-dinghy and rows perfect. It needs good oars.
